OneNote 2003 files can be opened by both OneNote 2007 and OneNote 2010 in read-only mode and subsequently upgraded to the later versions of the file format. The API runs on Microsoft's globally available cloud and sends data from applications into the user's OneDrive. On March 17, 2014, Microsoft released the OneNote cloud service API that enables third-party application developers to integrate the service into their apps. More than one person can work on the same page at the same time using OneNote as a shared whiteboard environment. This allows collaboration among multiple individuals in a notebook when they are offline. Its multi-user capability allows offline paragraph-level editing with later synchronization and merging. It can also extract or copy texts from images and documents using Optical Character Recognition It can replay audio concurrently with notes taken during the recording. It also searches "electronic ink" annotations as text and phonetically searches audio recordings on a text key. screen captures, embedded document scans, photographs) for embedded text content. Users may add embedded multimedia recordings and hyperlinks. Users can move pages within the binder and annotate them with a stylus or word-processing or drawing tools. There is no enforced uniform page layout or structure. The difference shows in certain OneNote features and characteristics: OneNote notebooks collect, organize and share possibly unpublished materials – as compared to word processors and wikis, which usually target publishing in some way. Microsoft designed this user interface to resemble a tabbed ring binder, into which the user can directly make notes and gather material from other applications. OneNote saves information in pages organized into sections within notebooks. OneNote saves data automatically as the user makes edits to their file. Unlike a word processor, OneNote features a virtually unbounded document window, in which users can click anywhere on the canvas to create a new text box at that location. The software allows users to create notes that can include: texts, pictures, tables, and drawings. OneNote was announced by Microsoft's Bill Gates on November 17, 2002. Microsoft also provides a web-based version of OneNote as part of OneDrive and Office for the web. OneNote is also available as a free, stand-alone app via the official website and the app stores of: Windows 10, MacOS, iOS, iPadOS and Android. It gathers users' notes, drawings, screen clippings, and audio commentaries, and notes can also be shared with other OneNote users over the Internet or a network. OneNote is designed for free-form information gathering and multi-user collaboration. It is available as part of the Microsoft Office suite and since 2014 has been free on all platforms outside the suite. Microsoft OneNote is note-taking software, developed by Microsoft.

Individual motivation and commitment is important for making a quint part of the family. Whether you currently have a quint or are thinking about making one your next apparatus purchase, you’re going to be more successful with that change by addressing cultural element head-on.Ĭhange can be more difficult in a tradition-bound organization like the fire service. So, how can you go about developing that new hole for the triangular peg in your department? Here are six steps to making your quint an integral part of your department’s operations. It’s a conflict between what they’ve been raised to believe a piece of fire apparatus should be (either a round or square peg) and what a piece of fire apparatus could be (a triangular peg). So, when forced to bring in a quint, by a city manager or county administrator, as a money-saving venture or by a fire chief with a different vision for the department, firefighters and officers find themselves in a conflict. Quints are neither a round nor a square peg. They end up emulating many of their operational practices – and their culture. Which is not surprising, given that smaller and newer departments have historically looked to larger departments like FDNY, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles and Phoenix to learn how they operate. This is true even in relatively young fire departments. The traditional roles of engines and trucks – and their very different tactical capabilities – and their firefighters’ attachment to those roles, are deeply ingrained in the culture.Įngines and trucks are round and square pegs that fit nicely in the round and square holes we’ve developed for them. One reason why quints have not enjoyed wide-spread use is based in our culture. So why doesn’t the quint have a place in more fire departments? Neither a round or square peg NPFA Standard 1901, The Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, outlines the requirements for a quint in Chapter 9 of the standard. Quints are designed to provide five tools – a pump, hose, water, ground ladders and aerial device – for firefighters to carry out to provide water supply and access to elevated areas. And while many fire departments operate quints with good success, others have tried them and found they didn’t meet their needs. The quint appears to be the fire apparatus equivalent of the best athlete available. For Carl, what mattered most was what was true, not merely what would make us feel better. Ann Druyan, in the epilogue to Sagan's last book, Billions and Billions: Thoughts on Life and Death at the Brink of the Millennium (published posthumously in 1997), gives a moving account of Carl's last days: " Contrary to the fantasies of the fundamentalists, there was no deathbed conversion, no last minute refuge taken in a comforting vision of a heaven or an afterlife. Sagan played a leading role in NASA's Mariner, Viking, Voyager, and Galileo expeditions to other planets. The film came out after Sagan's death, following a 2-year struggle with a bone marrow disease. With his wife, Ann Druyan, he was co-producer of the popular motion picture, " Contact," which featured a feminist, atheist protagonist played by Jodie Foster (1997). Sagan was author, co-author or editor of 20 books, including The Dragons of Eden (1977), which won a Pulitzer, Pale Blue Dot (1995) and The Demon-Haunted World: Science As a Candle in the Dark (1996), his hardest-hitting on religion. A book of the same title came out in 1980, and was on The New York Times bestseller list for 7 weeks. A great popularizer of science, Sagan produced the PBS series, " Cosmos," which was Emmy and Peabody award-winning, and was watched by 500 million people in 60 countries. He became professor of astronomy and space science and director of the Laboratory for Planetary Studies at Cornell University, and co-founder of the Planetary Society. After earning bachelor and master's degrees at Cornell, Sagan earned a double doctorate at the University of Chicago in 1960. In 1934, scientist Carl Sagan was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. The mirrors were made from Zerodur glass-ceramic by the German company Schott AG. Each segment is 1.8 meters wide, 7.5 centimeters thick, and weighs half a ton. In the Keck telescopes, each primary mirror is made of 36 hexagonal segments that work together as a unit. A mirror of similar size cast of a single piece of glass could not be made rigid enough to hold its shape precisely it would sag microscopically under its own weight as it was turned to different positions, causing aberrations in the optical path. The key advance that allowed the construction of the Keck telescopes was the use of active optics to operate smaller mirror segments as a single, contiguous mirror. The Keck II telescope showing the segmented primary mirror The Keck I telescope began science observations in May 1993, while first light for Keck II occurred on October 23, 1996. With construction of the first telescope well advanced, further donations allowed the construction of a second telescope starting in 1991. Keck Foundation gave $70 million to fund the construction of the Keck I telescope, which began in September 1985, with first light occurring on November 24, 1990, using nine of the eventual 36 segments. With a design in hand, a search for the funding began. With a concept first proposed in 1977, telescope designers at the University of California, Berkeley (Terry Mast) and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory ( Jerry Nelson) had been developing the technology necessary to build a large, ground-based telescope. They are currently the 3rd and 4th largest. Both telescopes have 10 m (33 ft) aperture primary mirrors, and when completed in 1993 (Keck 1) and 1996 (Keck 2) were the largest optical reflecting telescopes in the world. Keck Observatory is an astronomical observatory with two telescopes at an elevation of 4,145 meters (13,600 ft) near the summit of Mauna Kea in the U.S. These professional cameras fall into a different price range, usually costing 5-10 times more than consumer camcorders.
